My name is Matthew Forbes, and I’m a media professional and creative with a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Advanced Studies (Media & Communications) from the University of Sydney.

Over the past few years, I’ve engaged with and maintained an avid interest in various different facets of the media landscape. My involvement in this field has included writing and editing articles for various publications, producing multimedia content, co-hosting radio shows and promoting and maintaining the online brand of student societies.

I am also actively involved in the performing arts, primarily as a composer and sound designer. I have worked across stage, screen and audio, contributing to productions at various renowned theatres across Sydney and scoring award-winning short films. Additionally, I play in Sydney band Finding Better Health, and work as a guitar tutor at my old high school.

A constant throughout all of my work, regardless of the field, is a passion for storytelling. Whether I’m writing articles, composing or doing anything in between, I strive to completely immerse my audience in a time, place or state of mind. I have also been interested in the critical analysis of art from as far back as my final years of high school, when I began writing short album reviews and posting them to Instagram. Examining the theoretical concepts underpinning others’ work greatly helps to inspire my own, particularly when writing lyrics or arranging instrumentation.

My longterm goal is to continue to involve myself in the arts throughout my career, whether that be through analytical writing or more practical, creative endeavours. Examples of my work can be found through the ‘Media’ and ‘Creative’ links above.
